ProQuest Ebook Central requires you to login using your database credentials whether you are on or off campus. There is no walk-in use; you must be affiliated with the University of South Alabama to read these books.
Ebook Central titles also have digital rights management built into them. To download them for offline viewing, you need to have the free Adobe Digital Editions (for PCs) or BlueFire Reader (for Apple devices) on your computer.
Amazon does not currently work well with Adobe Digital Editions so Ebook Central titles may not be read on a non-Fire Kindle. They will work on the following devices.
Ebook Central has some limits on printing and copying:
Offline Printing: 10% of the book
Online Printing: 30% of the book
Offline Copying: 10% of the book
Online Copying: 15% of the book
Each individual book record indicates on the Details and the Download tabs how many pages you have left for printing and copying.
The default search screen for Ebook Central is the basic serch screen, but you can also browse choose to do an Advance Search or to Browse Subjects. The Advanced Search Option allows more precise search options.
Browse Subjects: explore broad subject areas by clicking on any topic.
Advanced Search: allows you to specify particular fields, limit by subject heading (Library of Congress Subject Headings), limit by language, and more. Within the Advanced Search , you can also limit your search by the download format you are interested in (remember though that all titles are available as pdf, but not every book is available in epub), and to only titles that the Marx Library owns.
The results screen allows you to further refine your search, sort your results and choose options for reading.
This screen provides a wealth of information about a title and gives options for reading and downloading. When you choose Cite Book, the citation is available in MLA, APA, Chicago (both Notes-Bibliography and Author-Date), Harvard, and Vancouver styles.
