Only USA faculty, staff and currently-enrolled students are eligible to use our subscription databases from off campus. Alumni and Courtesy Card holders are not entitled to access our online resources remotely because this violates our licenses with database vendors who do not allow us to sell access to their products. Our agreements allow remote use only for current students, faculty and staff.

For remote access, you must use your J Number or Library Barcode. Contact the University Library at 251-460-7025 or webref@southalabama if you have problems with access.

NOTE: If you are in Alabama and are not a current faculty, staff or student but need database access, use the Alabama Virtual Library. The AVL will recognize your computer as one that is in Alabama.

After choosing a resource from the Articles, Indexes, Databases page, the Electronic Reference Sources page, Our Journal List, or the Biomedical Library's Database List page or Journal Search, you will see this login screen:

Electronic Reserves items also use this same login screen and method.

If you choose to use your library barcode as your password you must have previously checked out an item from the library. If you haven't done this, come to the library to get your barcode activated.

Your J Number will work as a password regardless of whether or not you've ever checked out anything.
