CRAAP Test

Use the CRAAP Test to evaluate a source (website, news article, study...) for bias and quality.

CRAAP isn't pass/fail. It is a structured way to evaluate qualities.

CRAAP Test Breakdown

  • Currency - 
    • How recently was this written, filmed, or created?
    • How old is the information this source references?
    • Has it been updated?
  • Relevance - 
    • What do other sources on the same topic say?
    • Am I preferring to use this specific source because I agree with it?
  • Authority - 
    • Who is the author? Does the author seem to have expertise or experience in the subject?
    • Is the source created or published by a person or group who benefits from the subject?
  • Accuracy - 
    • Where did the creators get their information from?
    • Just like with your own research assignments, other items online should say where their information came from.
  • Purpose - 
    • Why was this item created?
    • Who is the intended audience? Is this for experts or new people?
