Life and Limb Exhibit: Additional Resources

This guide outlines NLM Exhibit Life and Limb

From the Mobile Medical Museum

These are photographs of Alex H. Hardie of Austin, Illinois. Hardie was a double amputee who had lost his right arm two inches from the shoulder and his left arm at the elbow. These images were part of a testimonial included in a 1915 catalog by The Carnes Artificial Limb Co. of Kansas City, MO. The company was founded by William T. Carnes, an inventor, and J.P. Prescott, a railroad magnate, both of whom had lost limbs in industrial accidents.
