ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN, BIOMEDICAL LIBRARY, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA

DESCRIPTION

The University of South Alabama (USA) seeks a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Assistant Librarian in clinical information  to provide library and information support at the point-of-need to healthcare professionals at the University of South Alabama's Health System. This is a twelve-month non-tenure track faculty continuing appointment with an approximate start date of February 1, 2024. As a member of the Charles M. Baugh Biomedical Library (CBBL) team, the Assistant Librarian will conduct literature searches to support evidence-based practice for the development of hospital policies, protocols and other patient care initiatives. They will also promote library resources to and develop services for clinicians and health science pre-professional students by participating in hospital committee meetings, journal clubs, resident orientations, patient rounds, and grand rounds. As part of the library instruction team, they will provide instruction and support for databases, mobile apps, and other library based resources/services, including the development of systematic reviews. They will provide collection development and service recommendations relevant to the clinical sites as well as regular updates to CCBL leadership, faculty, and staff concerning USA Health. The Assistant Librarian is expected to contribute to the USA community and the profession through teaching, professional development, and university service; professional development and scholarly activities that will lead professional growth; fostering an accessible, inclusive, welcoming, and safe environment; supports USA Libraries values of service, collaboration, communication, professionalism, and adaptability.

Qualifications: Required
• Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited (or foreign equivalent) program.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice methodologies.
• Demonstrated knowledge of health science resources, databases and library trends.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
• Ability to build collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationships with people of varying backgrounds; work effectively with faculty, students, professional colleagues and diverse academic groups; ability to advocate and promote library resources and services to a variety of constituents.
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written English language skills.

Qualifications: Preferred
• Experience working in an academic health science library or clinical setting.
