Are you interested in learning how to perfect your PubMed or Web of Science searches?
PubMed has online training, from beginner to expert searching. They are quick tutorials, expert search tutorials, and even some pre-recorded webinars and classes.
Web of Science has a series of training videos. They include everything from basic searching to creating alerts for topics of interest.
PubMed , from the U.S. National Library of Medicine, has over 38 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. When accessed through the Library homepage, you will be linked to library holdings when full text is available.
To get started, click on 'Advanced Search' on the homepage.
Going to the Advanced Search page will give you a query box. Once here, you can type in your keywords and Boolean operators. (Make sure that your Boolean operators are in ALL CAPS.) In this case, I wanted PubMed to look for those exact keyword phrases, so I put them in quotes.
Click on the search button to get your results.

In the left column of PubMed, you will see your potential filters. You can filter for date, language, and there are additional filters for publication type, and more.
Web of Science indexes over 34,000 journals across many disciplines, including science, social science, and the arts & humanities. To access Web of Science, please go to our Research Database page. Just click on Web of Science.
The default is Smart Search.
You can use this search bar with your keywords and Boolean operators. Make sure that you put keyword phrases in quotes and your Boolean operators in ALL CAPS. Click on the arrow to get your results.
In this case, I had 101 results. You can see your filter options on the left. Web of Science allows you to filter by date and language, as well as some other filters such as country of publication and funding agency.
