BUS 150: Introduction to Business: Management

This course guide is to assist those students taking the "Introduction to Business Course". [Originally created by Marty Branch, Business Librarian]

Management Worksheet Overview

This purpose of this guide is to assist you in the management worksheet.  Since we are a business library, we have an extensive collection on management books (those in theory and some of the latest top reads) to management magazines & journals.  Your project will require you to understand the strategic planning process for an organization.  You will also need to locate a company's mission statement, strategic direction, objectives and a SWOT analysis.

Also, remember to search on your company's name to see if they have a website.  If so, select "Investor Relations" or "News and Events" to see if you can locate the company's annual report which includes their mission, objectives and executive leadership team.

Articles

We have two great magazine/journal resources in the library that focus on management topics.  Please come to the magazine area to review the current as well as the past twelve months (filed behind the current edition):

SWOT Analysis Resources

To conduct a successful company or industry research project, you will need to know the SIC or NAICS code.  These acronyms stand for the industry classification provided by the U.S. Government.  You can search online for these codes, use a reference book we have here in the library or either use a database list below to browse and search for the codes.  Other business databases will often provide this information as well.
