ILL

Eligible Users

NOTE: Faculty, students and staff of the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health Professions and all USA Hospitals' employees need to submit their ILL requests through the Biomedical Library.

USA Faculty, staff and currently registered students may request research material not owned by any of the USA Libraries.

The Marx Library does not borrow textbooks and/or required reading for students through Interlibrary Loan.

  1. Undergraduates are limited to 5 requests in process at one time.
  2. Graduate students are limited to 20 ILL requests in process (only 10 will be input each day.
  3. When the "requests in process" limit is reached, patrons can turn in one more request as soon as one request is filled.

The Biomedical Library handles ILL requests for faculty and students of the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health Professions and all USA Hospitals' employees.

Time Required

The ILL Department cannot guarantee when a requested item will arrive. Allow a minimum of 10 working days (Monday - Friday) for book loans and photocopies of articles. Note any deadlines on request form. Materials out of state, in high demand, or difficult to locate take longer.

Use Restrictions

Some materials may be restricted to "Library Use Only"

Materials borrowed through Interlibrary Loan cannot be placed on Course Reserve for USA classes.

Copyright

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17), United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.

The CONTU guideline for "fair use" is 5 articles from the last 5 years of the journal. Royalty fees must be paid for all articles requested above "fair use" each year. As a member of the Copyright Clearance Center, the library will pay the royalty fees for articles 6-15 copied from a periodical title. After the limit is reached, the requester will be asked to pay the royalty fee for additional articles from that title.

Marx Library eBook Collections

The Marx Library is currently adding book titles from our growing eBook Collections.

If you should request a book loan from one of our E-Collections, we will send you an email with the access information and cancel your ILL request.

If you prefer the hardcopy over the eBook, just add a note in the Comment box on the ILL request form and we will submit an ILL loan of the title.
