AN 300: Thinking Anthropologically: Finding Books

This guide is in support of the University of South Alabama's AN 300 course.

Finding Books

To find books, e-books, government documents, and non-print media (such as films), use the SOUTHcat catalog. Click here to access SOUTHcat.


1. When you search SOUTHcat, use broad terms. (E.g., "capital punishment" instead of "lethal injection.)

2. When you find a relevant book, click on its title and use the SUBJECT HEADINGS (in blue) to revise your search and find more information.

3. Use the Library of Congress Classification system to locate the book in the library. See the chart below for help.
