Systematic Reviews: Assessment, Management, and Reporting Tools

Covidence is an online platform to create systematic reviews. A collaboration between Cochrane and its service partners (Monash University, National ICT Australia, University College London, and the Instituto de Effectividad Clinica y Sanitaria), Covidence is based in Melbourne, Dublin, and Buenos Aires. Its leadership includes systematic reviewers, healthcare researchers, plus software development and service professionals. Anyone can use Covidence, since it is open to the public. While a trial is free, Covidence charges $240 for one systematic review (unlimited number of users) and $445 for teams who contribute to several reviews per year.
Covidence primarily allows users to input (i.e., upload references, titles, abstracts and documents), select (annotate, link, include/exclude items), manage user roles, produce/share reviews, and then store/access reviews.

Rayyan is a free website that helps authors prepare, screen, analyze, and extract data from systematic reviews. Produced under the auspices of the Qatar Foundation, Rayyan also has a free mobile app (iOS/Android).

RevMan is used by Cochrane reviewers to manage the data extraction and analysis process. It is a free tool that is geared toward Cochrane-like reviews.

JBI SUMARI supports the entire review process, from drafting your protocol, study selection, critical appraisal, data extraction and synthesis. It also allows you to manage review teams and contributors to your review. You can conduct standalone reviews of 10 various types (including effectiveness, qualitative and prevalence) of systematic reviews. Additionally, you can choose to include multiple approaches within the one review.
