Your research question directs your search strategy.

Example research question: How did the independence movements in Egypt and Lebanon between the two world wars reveal the similarities and differences between British and French foreign policies? What effects did these similarities and differences have on the people of these regions?

For this question, I have two topics to research. I can identify keywords for both:

Independence, Egypt, Britian, foreign policy
Independence, Lebanon, French, foreign policy

I can research both topics and then, based off my own understanding, write about the similarities and differences.
