Graphic Medicine

What is Graphic Medicine?

The official definition of Graphic Medicine (GM) is "the intersection between the medium of comics and the discourse of healthcare." An easier definition would be "the combination of comics and graphics with health related topics." Graphic Medicine encompasses anything from a short, Peanuts-style comic strip, to a graphic memoir about the loss of a parent. Graphic Medicine can cover topics from cancer and diabetes, to public health and puberty. Not all Graphic Medicine materials have to come from professionals -- many titles are written from a patient or family member perspective and illustrated by an artist. The field is ever-changing and growing as Graphic Medicine gains popularity as both a teaching and learning tool.
