USA dissertations that are not medical can be found in the Reference Deparment on the 2nd Floor North.

Newer USA dissertations that are available in electronic format are free to USA faculty, students, and staff through ProQuest's Dissertations & Theses.

A. Borrow through ILL: Some libraries will loan their dissertations if they have a circulating copy. Their loan charges vary from $5.00 - $20.00. Delivery could take several weeks.

B. Purchase from UMI

1. Ask the ILL office to order an unbound paper copy through UMI Dissertation Express.
   Estimated Cost: $41.00. Your library account will be billed. Delivery will be 4 - 5 days.
2. Call University Microfilms International at 1-800-521-3042 or 1-800-521-0600 ext 3781, or fax them at 1-800-308-1586.
   Estimated cost: Photocopy $56.00, Film $49.00. Rush delivery is extra. Have your charge card ready. Delivery within 14 working days to 3 weeks.
3. Order online from UMI. Locate the title on Dissertation Abstracts/Digital Dissertations database on the library's homepage (Available on campus and remotely with USA ID.) Click on Order a Copy to place an order for the dissertation or thesis using your credit card.

Some dissertations can be ordered from UMI in PDF format ( indicated by a icon next to the record ) and downloaded to your computer. When you order a digital dissertation, UMI sends you an e-mail giving the address from which to download your dissertation and a PIN that identifies your order. This PIN is not restricted by IP address or by computer, so you can order from a library computer and then go home or to your office and download the dissertation. The price of a dissertation in this format is calculated when you add the dissertation to your shopping cart. It can always be removed if you decide the cost is too much.
